Coming together before moving unto the next step of their lives as medical doctors, the graduating class of 2019 successfully held their most eagerly anticipated Graduation Ball at the Oakridge Pavilion, Banilad, Mandaue City, Cebu last June 18, 2019.
Started with a one at a time grand entrance wearing their crazy rich stunning attire, the Matias doctors of 2019 celebrated the night with so much entertainment with funfilled memories that each batchmate can reminisce in the future.
Thrust into the spotlight bearing the #GraduationBall and #CrazyRichDoctors, this year’s Crazy Rich Asians-themed grad ball was hosted by Ben Salise of Mugstoria who also wore a fully sequined Lemuel Rosos creation.
A grand opening dance number from dancing divas known as ‘The Queens’ spiced the last batch gathering among the graduating students of batch NEXUS.
A focal point where all diversity converge and bind together as one functional masterpiece known as ‘nexus’, the batch redefines the binding force that binds diversity in unity to bring out hope for humanity as it creates a whole new NEXUS.
Beaming with pride to be labeled as the highest number of graduates so far, the class of 2019 enjoyed the 6-hour celebration of being together before they will be conferred with the most noble degree on Doctor of Medicine.
The awarding of special awards such as the Early Bird Award, Better Late Than Never Award, Most Naning Award and the Best Leader Award added so much fun aside from the raffle draws and games where random winners received special prizes.
Moreover, a Php25,000 worth gift certificates to the winners for Best Dressed for Male and Female Awards sponsored by Skin Doctors Facial and Cosmetic Clinic-Lapulapu City became the highlight of the night and a perfect addition to treasure all their memorable moments as learners before setting off to the next stage of their medical journey.
Dr. Michael Vince Busa, Dr. Karl Anatolyiv Busa and Ms. Kristine Josephine Busa of Skin Doctors Facial and Cosmetic Clinic-Lapulapu City graced the event and handed the aforementioned awards.
This year’s working committees on invitation, certificates, attendance, awards and prizes, food, logistics, and batch prophecy have worked hand in hand in order to mark a relatively lasting memory as one big batch.
In addition, the sports enthusiasts for the MHAMurals Kidlap 2018 recreational sporting activities on scrabble, extemporaneous speech, basketball, table tennis, volleyball men, volleyball women, batch yell, pinoy henyo and pinoy games were also awarded with cash prizes, medals and trophies.
According to the grad ball overall chairman, Mel Karlos Sabal, he was deeply honored to be part of the (239) graduates of batch NEXUS, through thick and thin.
Known by his exemplary leadership since he set foot on MHAM portals, the 28-year old student-leader was the former Association of Philippine Medical Colleges-Student Network (APMC-SN) secretary general for Central Visayas in 2017 apart from his dedicated service for the MHAM Student Council.
“This year’s grad ball theme is Crazy Rich Asian. Actually, we just wanted to play dress up and somehow feel that we could be crazy rich just for a night while we celebrate the efforts, the struggles and the success that we had throughout med school. It was a tough one indeed but despite the circumstances, we came through”, Sabal said.
A nurse by profession who wanted to pursue into Obstetrics and Gynecology for his residency training, the overall chairman cited that his experiences being a student leader have developed his skills and fullest potential as a whole. “Deciding to enroll finally in med school was definitely one for the books. I’ve given up the remaining years of my youth to pursue this childhood dream. It was joining the APMC-SN in 2016 and became one of the regional officers for the Visayas made a big difference on my medical journey. I have gained more confidence to represent MHAM through leadership while I uphold the values of a true Matias doctor. Medical clerkship is such a memorable and a crazy experience but it was bearable knowing that I have chosen the right people to help me get through this one”, he added.
Well-considered as the biggest event in the college calendar, the annual graduation ball is one of the venues for future doctors who will look forward to see each other again in the future through batch reunions and special fellowship after their grueling yet fulfilling yeas in med school.
Crazy rich and literally rich alike, the Matias doctors of 2019 ended the meaningful celebration with aspirations that such noble future belongs to those who refuse to give up. One day they’ll look back to reecho that commitment aside, they can accomplish equally as the rest. (Ana Liza Abao)
