Because MHAMoments are treasures of the heart…

Among the student-winners who exemplified excellence in academic and extra-curricular activities was a first year aspiring doctor who won this year’s on-campus Extemporaneous Speaking competition. A graduate of BS in Medical Technology (Medical Laboratory Science) from Liceo de Cagayan University, Gio Paolo Lerin Plete, bested other extempo-speakers during the MHAM Days Celebrations Literary Contest.

“My participation in the MHAMurals 2018 events has actually paved way for me to be able to appreciate the culture of this new school I am in and it was an opportunity for me to meet new people. It made me realized that the school gears not only for academic competence but also initiates activities like this to allow the medical students to become well-rounded individuals. To be a successful doctor, again, you need to be a well-rounded individual in order to be able to properly address the needs of the community. Sports does not only promote wellness in the physical aspect of health, but also with the fact that in sports, you deal with different types of people and you need to think of strategies and game plans, as well as project proper attitude. It will actually let one develop critical thinking, interpersonal relations, communication skills and also apply the core values, which are very essential for one to become a competent physician”, Plete said in an interview.

This year’s champion in extemporaneous speaking added that he also participated in the Quiz Bowl competition with his batchmate Josef Tomakin and bagged the bronze award.

Driven by his inmost goal to become a competent and committed physician like the rest, Gio was one of the full scholar recipients of Don Matias Aznar Scholarship (DMAS) grant for academic year 2018-2019 and was also chosen to become part of the MHAM Return of Service Scholarship (RSS) grant. Being a lifetime lover of color green that often associates life, energy and nature, which is also the color branding of the school, he chose MHAM among other medical institutions in the country because of the scholarship grant and the traditional learning system that MHAM has kept over the years.

“It will actually let one develop critical thinking, interpersonal relations, communication skills and also apply the core values, which are very essential for one to become a competent physician”…- Gio Paolo L. Plete of Insignis

“I chose MHAM because I believe that this institution will make me become a great physician especially that this school was able to produce great doctors for the past decades and has been producing topnotchers in the licensure examinations. This school practices traditional method of teaching that I preferred most compared to the style of other schools. In addition, MHAM has provided me with a great scholarship grant, that despite being financially unprivileged, this school has given me hope that I can finally pursue medschool and reach my goal as I am fulfilling a lifelong dream. Aside from that, many people have believed that I have what it takes to make it in this field. Seeing the financial struggle of my family and of having been witnessed my late parents who became ill without enough medical resources have become my driving force to become a medical doctor in order to help my family and to the people who seek medical help. With the scholarship that this school has granted, I am motivated to pursue this degree”, he concluded.

Gio Paolo Lerin Plete’s MHAMoments…

Unwavering to offer free medical education to deserving students with its pursuit to continue to provide professional advancement with ethical standards in response to the current health needs in local and global community, MHAM, as a medical school takes pride of its current scholars who are enjoying full tuition fee coverage excluding miscellaneous and other fees.

Our future doctors with a heart…

To complete, the winning teams will represent the school for the upcoming 2018 Association of Philippine Medical Colleges-Student Network (APMC-SN) Central Visayas Medlympics. In 2016, the MHAM athletic team emerged as the second placer in the overall official tally.

Hosted by Snem Austin Bellosillo who also served as the Sports Chairman, the awarding ceremony ended with an inspiring message from the Chairperson of the Executive Committee for MHAM Days Celebrations 2018, Dr. Rainelda U. Veloso, who expressed her gratitude to the Student Council for a successful and eye-popping celebration in memory of the founder together with the MHAM community.

Igniting the MHAM spirit in the name of sports…

Designed to promote healthy lifestyle in the name of sports, the MHAMurals 2018 was one of the most rewarding experiences in medschool within the academic year. A sporty endeavor and a time to bring forth unity among teams during the literary contests, board games, pinoy games and ball games with fun-filled memories, this year’s sportsfest was another perfect opportunity to show teamwork and collaboration and improved social relations among future doctors. (Ana Liza Abao)
