SWU-MHAM COLLEGE OF MEDICINE Showed Supremacy in Medical Research among the Medical Schools in the Visayas Region

The Association of Philippine Medical Colleges (APMC) –Student Network has embarked on the Medical Research Contest during regional and national conventions.  The first regional competition was held at Silliman University Medical School last October 2015 and SWU-MHAM College of Medicine garnered the 2nd and 3rd place best papers.  When brought to the national competition, the paper entry from MHAM-CM has been selected as one among the top 5 finalists from a total of 34 papers nation-wide.

The winning paper was entitled:  “Peripheral Nerve Blocking Effect from Alkylamide obtained from “toothache” plant flower”  authored by the following students: John Paul de la Cruz, Lica  Jamanel L. Carabana, Randulf Copino, Ma. Theresa Celestino, Kim Gregorio Cuizon III, and Roey Yee.  Mr. JP de la Cruz is the lead author.

The Second Medical Research Competition was held at Iloilo Doctors’ University College of Medicine last November 13-15, 2016, the  MHAM CM garnered the 1st and 3rd Place best papers in the Basic Science category, selected from among the 10 medical schools in the Visayas region.

Last Feb 3-5, 2016, these two papers were among those presented for contest and once again, one entry from MHAM College of Medicine was selected as one among the top 5 finalists, on the paper entitled:  “Nephropretective Effect of VCO on the Cisplatin-Induced Kidney damage: A time and dose dependent study”.  The main author of the winning paper is still Mr. John Paul de la Cruz.
